Southport, Qld. Gold Coast Mobile Weigh was called to weigh one of the City of Gold Coast’s workboats along with the towing vehicle, a 2019 Holden Rodeo ute. The operator of the boat was concerned that the vehicles may have been overweight.

The mobile weighbridge’s individual scales were optimised for this weighing session. Usually caravan and ute weights are recorded on uneven surfaces which can contribute to very minor variations in individual wheel weights. In this instance, the almost perfectly smooth concrete surface offered the best possible accuracy.
Just looking at the enormity of the mass of aluminium, it was impossible to predict whether this load was over or under. The ATM (or maximum weight) of the trailer is 3,500kgs and the towing vehicle, a 2019 Holden Colorado crewcab ute, has a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kgs. The driver reported that the braking is not as effective as previously noticed, and that perhaps the overall load could be compromised in some way.
After weighing each wheel of both the Colorado and the boat trailer, we found all weights were hundreds of kilograms below the rated maximums. The trailer is perfectly level and the towball weight was within the 5% to 15% range.
It was a pleasure to help out ensuring that the safety of this rig is in perfect shape.
